MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, October 29. Julia Martinsson (Charlottenberg, Sweden) of Johnson & Wales University earned Player of the Week honors after her four-goal performance on opening weekend. Endicott College's Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) was named Co-Goaltender of the Week after posting a shutout victory for the Gulls in their first game of the season. A duo of Morrisville State Mustangs in Karoline Aarvik (Trondheim, Norway) and Alexziz Giannamore (Pittsburgh, Pa.) were recognized as Co-Goaltender and Rookie of the Week respectively after their Week One performances.
Player of the Week
Julia Martinsson – Johnson & Wales University
(Sophomore, Forward – Charlottenberg, Sweden)
Martinsson scored three of the Wildcats' four goals during the opening weekend against Division I opponent Sacred Heart University. The sophomore forward tallied the first goal of the year in Friday's contest and then scored both of JWU's goals on Saturday.
Co-Goaltenders of the Week
Vendela Jonsson – Endicott College
(Junior, Goaltender – Linkoping, Sweden)
Jonsson earned the win and shutout in net for the Gulls during a 3-0 victory over Southern Maine. She recorded a total of 24 saves.
Karoline Aarvik – Morrisville State
(Freshman, Goaltender – Trondheim, Norway)
The freshman recorded 42 saves in a 2-0 opening weekend for the Mustangs as they posted a 2-0 win over Buffalo State Friday, followed by a 2-1 victory Saturday. In Friday's win, Aarvik posted 19 stops, including 10 in the final period. She followed with 23 saves on Saturday in the win, 11 alone in the second period. Across the weekend, she posted a .977 save percentage, and 0.50 goals against average.
Rookie of the Week
Alexziz Giannamore – Morrisville State College
(Freshman, Forward– Pittsburgh, Pa.)
Giannamore posted two tallies in her first weekend on the ice with the Mustangs, netting the eventual game winner in Morrisville State's opening 2-0 win over Buffalo State. The tally came midway through the first period for her first collegiate score, and the Mustangs first of the 2017 season. She added a second on the weekend just 38 seconds into Saturday's outing with Buffalo State, again the first tally of the night, in the 2-1 win. She finished with a +1 on ice rating for the weekend, and two points.
Sydney Jordan – SUNY Canton
(Sophomore, Defense – Prince George, B.C.)
Jordan scored the eventual game-winning goal 8:38 into the third period to break a 1-1 tie as the Roos earned a 4-1 win at Plymouth State in their season-opener.
Micayla Macintyre – SUNY Canton
(Freshman, Defense – Fall River, Nova Scotia)
Macintyre posted a pair of assists in her collegiate debut as she assisted both the eventual game-winning goal and an insurance score in the Roos' 4-1 season opening win vs. Plymouth State.
