BEVERLY, Mass.- Number two seed Morrisville State College defeated one seed Endicott College 3-1 to claim the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) tournament championship.
Morrisville State's Vanessa Klimpke (Winnipeg, Manitoba) was named the CHC Tournament Most Valuable Player as she scored three goals and added one assist in two postseason games for the Mustangs over the weekend. Klimpke's tournament efforts were highlighted by her game-winning goal versus SUNY Canton in the semifinals, and also her unassisted tally against Endicott in today's matchup that opened up the scoring in the contest at 5:05 of the second.
Endicott refused to go down without a fight as Meredith Vlachos (East Bridgewater, Mass.) powered home a tally to bring the Gulls within two. However, Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, Alberta) stood tall between the pipes for Morrisville, recording 30 saves in the victory.
The Mustangs finish the year with a 20-6-1 overall record while Endicott closes out the season at 22-4-1.
The NCAA Division III women's ice hockey selection show takes place on Monday at 10:00am.
