2016-17 CHC Weekly Release #14

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, February 19.  Tess Adams (Calgary, Alta.) of SUNY Canton was named Player of the Week. Johnson & Wales University's Julia Aberg (Stockholm, Sweden) and Morrisville State College's Renee Stevenson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) were named Goaltender and Rookie of the Week respectively.    

Player of the Week

Tess Adams – SUNY Canton
(Sophomore, Forward – Calgary, Alta.)

Adams scored three goals to lead the Roos to a 1-0-1 unbeaten weekend in a crucial CHC series against Stevenson. She scored a pair of goals 3:41 apart in the second period on Friday as her second tally proved to be the game-winner, her third of the season. The sophomore then gave the Roos a 2-1 lead midway through the third period on Saturday before the Mustangs added a late equalizer. With the strong performance, she led the team to the three seed in the upcoming conference tournament. 


Goaltender of the Week

Julia Aberg – Johnson & Wales University
(Freshman, Goaltender – Stockholm, Sweden)

Aberg combined for 68 saves this weekend and a 1-1 record against CHC Tournament #2 seed Morrisville State. The freshman netminder posted a 37-save shutout victory on Friday, as Morrisville was shutout for the first time this season. The shutout marked her third of the season.


Rookie of the Week

Renee Stevenson – Morrisville State College
(Freshman, Forward– Winnipeg, Manitoba)

Stevenson scored twice in the 2-0 win over Johnson and Wales on Saturday to lead Morrisville State back to the CHC Tournament as the second seed with an 8-4-conference record. Stevenson's first tally came 8 minutes into the second period for the 1-0 lead, before she added a second four minutes into the final period on the power play. Stevenson finished with a +2 on ice rating for the contest.


Honor Roll 

Jillian Gibbs – Endicott College
(Freshman, Forward – Burlington, Vt.)

Gibbs scored one goal in each game against Salem State on the week, both of which were 3-0 victories for the Gulls. Friday's victory over the Vikings clinched the regular season crown and number one overall seed in the CHC postseason for the Gulls.


Brooke Susac – SUNY Canton
(Freshman, Goaltender – Bowmanville, Ont.)

Susac combined to make 61 saves to lead the Roos to a 1-0-1 unbeaten weekend in a crucial weekend CHC series against Stevenson. She opened the weekend with 28 saves and a .916 save percentage in a 4-2 Roos win on Friday. The freshman followed that up with a 33 save effort on Saturday to help Canton to a 2-2 tie against the Mustangs, which locked up the three seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
