2016-17 CHC Weekly Release #10

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, January 22.  Bailey Coons (Casper, Wyo.) of Becker College was recognized as Player of the Week. Endicott College's duo of Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) and Nicole Demers (Avon, Conn.) were honored as Goaltender and Co-Rookie of the week respectively. Sydney Jordan (Prince George, B.C.) of SUNY Canton was also recognized as Co-Rookie of the Week.

Player of the Week

Bailey Coons - Becker College
(Sophomore, Forward – Casper, Wyo.)

Coons paced the Hawks to an impressive 2-0-1 week, notching four goals and one assist for five points. In Tuesday's tie vs. New England College she netted the first goal for Becker to tie the game at one in the second period. She followed that with two goals and the game-winning assist in Saturday's victory against Lebanon Valley College. She also tacked on the eventual game-winning tally in Sunday's victory over LVC. 

 

Goaltender of the Week

Vendela Jonsson – Endicott College
(Sophomore, Goaltender – Linkoping Sweden)

Jonsson guided Endicott to an undefeated week (3-0-0) with a pair of wins over NESCAC opponents Bowdoin (5-1) and Trinity (2-1, OT). Jonsson compiled 62 saves, a 0.98 GAA, and a .970 save percentage in her two starts on the week, before the Gulls also picked up a 1-0 overtime win over Salem State University on Saturday.

 

Co-Rookies of the Week

Nicole Demers - Endicott College
(Freshman, Defense – Avon, Conn.)

Demers recorded one goal and two assists for three points in Endicott's 3-0-0 week. Against Bowdoin, Demers notched a single-game career-high two points on a pair of assists, while her goal against Trinity tied up the game at 1-1, and forced the eventual overtime frame.

 

Sydney Jordan – SUNY Canton
(Freshman, Defense – Prince George, B.C.)

Jordan posted two goals and added an assist in a 1-0-1 week for SUNY Canton. She tied the game with just 1:24 remaining to lead the Roos to a 2-2 tie on Thursday v. Johnson & Wales University at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence. The blue liner followed that up with an assist and another goal in Friday's 7-0 win at Salem State.

 

Honor Roll

Maggie Layo – Endicott College
(Junior, Forward – Sandwich, Mass.)

Layo paced Endicott offensively with three goals in three games for the Gulls. The junior forward scored with eight seconds remaining in overtime against Salem State to give the Gulls their third straight victory on Saturday. She also netted two goals (including a power play tally) in Tuesday's victory against Bowdoin.
