MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, November 27. A duo from Morrisville State College in Renee Stevenson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, Alta.) were named Player and Goaltender of the Week respectively. Sarah Plourde (Hookset, N.H.) of Salem State University earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Player of the Week
Renee Stevenson – Morrisville State College
(Freshman, Forward – Winnipeg, Manitoba.)
Stevenson assisted Morrisville State to a 3-0 week behind her seven-point performance. In the 9-0 rout of Nichols, the freshman tallied her first collegiate hat trick behind her three goals and two assists, concluding the week with a two point outing in a 4-1 decision over New England College. Stevenson had a goal and an assist against NEC.
Goaltender of the Week
Renee Schmaltz – Morrisville State College
(Sophomore, Goaltender– Beaumont. Alta.)
Schmaltz posted a 3-0 record over the week, while collectively turning away 71 of 72 shots faced for a 98.6 save percentage across three games. She started the week with a season high 37 save performance in a 2-0 victory over Hamilton, collecting her fifth shut out of the year, before following that with her sixth shut out of the season in a 9-0 rout of Nichols with 13 saves. Schmaltz capped off the week with 21 saves in a 4-1 win over New England College to finish the week with a 3-0 week.
Rookie of the Week
Sarah Plourde – Salem State University
(Freshman, Goaltender– Hookset, N.H.)
Plourde stopped 76-80 shots (good for a .950 save percentage) to backstop Salem State to a 1-1 week vs. nonconference opponent University of New England. In Tuesday's loss the freshman netminder turned aside 32 of 34 shots in a losing (2-1) effort for the Vikings. She followed that outing with a 44-save performance in Sunday's 3-2 victory.
