MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, November 20. Caroline Hughes (Andover, Mass.) of Endicott College was recognized as the league's Player of the Week after her performance over the weekend. Hughes' teammate, Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) earned Goaltender of the Week accolades while SUNY Canton's Brooke Susac (Bowmanville, Ont.) was named Rookie of the Week.
Player of the Week
Caroline Hughes– Endicott College
(Sophomore, Forward – Andover, Mass.)
Hughes compiled two goals and two assists for four points in a two-game sweep of Stevenson University over the weekend. In each game, Hughes buried one goal and dished out one assist versus the Mustangs, as the Gulls remained undefeated on the early season (7-0-0 overall).
Goaltender of the Week
Vendela Jonsson – Endicott College
(Sophomore, Goaltender– Linkoping, Sweden)
Jonsson guided Endicott to a 2-0-0 week in net versus Stevenson by recording 56 saves, a .966 save percentage, and 1.00 goals against average. In Friday's game, which marked the first meeting between the two programs since last season's CHC championship contest, Jonsson posted a 32-save shutout against the Mustangs. Jonsson's career-high for saves in a shutout is 34, while Friday's performance ranks second all-time in her career.
Rookie of the Week
Brooke Susac – SUNY Canton
(Freshman, Goaltender– Bowmanville, Ont.)
Susac combined to stop 39 of the 40 shots she faced including recording a .975 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average leading the Roos to a weekend sweep against Salem State. The freshman stopped 14 of the 15 shots she faced leading the Roos to a 5-1 victory on Friday. She followed that up by recording her first collegiate shutout stopping all 25 shots she faced in a 4-0 victory on Saturday. She now improves to 4-2-0 on the season with a .915 save percentage.
Margret Troiano – SUNY Canton
(Junior, Forward – Morristown, N.Y.)
Troiano had a hand in four of the Roos' five goals on Friday night as she finished with two goals and two assists in a 5-1 win against Salem State. Troiano assisted the Roos first and fifth goals of the night, while scoring the third and fourth goals. The assistant captain scored on the power play 1:08 into the third period and just less than two minutes later netted an unassisted shorthanded marker. She was remarkably accurate as two of her three shots found the back of the net. Troiano added four shots as the Roos completed the weekend CHC sweep with a 4-0 win on Saturday.
Kathryn Mason – Johnson & Wales University
(Freshman, Forward – Grafton, Mass.)
Mason factored into both goals during Johnson & Wales' victory over Becker on Saturday. The freshman forward netted the first goal of the contest and then assisted on the game-winner vs. the Hawks. This performance marked her second multi-point game on the season.
