2016-17 CHC Weekly Release #1

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, October 30. The duo of Jessica Pele (Estevan, SK) and Brooke Susac (Bowmanville, Ont.) of SUNY Canton were named Player and Goaltender of the Week respectively. Morrisville State College's Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, B.C.) earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Player of the Week

Jessica Pele – SUNY Canton
(Sophomore, Forward – Estevan, SK.)

Pele had an impressive opening weekend totaling three points on two goals and an assist. The sophomore assisted the Roos opening goal and added an insurance goal on the team's third goal of the contest in a 5-1 win v. UNE on Friday. She followed that up with the game-winning power play goal with just two minutes remaining as the Roos earned a 3-2 come-from-behind win on Saturday. She tied a team-high with a +3 rating on the weekend.


Goaltender of the Week

Brooke Susac – SUNY Canton
(Freshman, Goaltender– Bowmanville, Ont.)

Susac combined to stop 57 shots in her first two collegiate games as the Roos earned a pair of 5-1 and 3-2 wins v. UNE on Friday and Saturday. She finished the week with a .950 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average. The rookie stopped 28 of the 29 shots she faced in the victory on Friday followed by a 29 save effort in the 3-2 win on Saturday. Susac stopped 10 shots in both the second and third periods to help the Roos to the come-from-behind victory. 


Rookie of the Week

Maddison Devlin – Morrisville State College
(Freshman, Forward– Campbell River, B.C.)

Devlin opened her freshman season with a 4-point weekend behind one goal and three assists. In the opener against Nichols at the Buffalo State Tournament, Devlin posted three assists in the 9-0 win, adding her first collegiate score the following day against Plymouth State. Her efforts earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team as Morrisville State was crowned the Bengal Invitational Champions.

Honor Roll

Courtney Walpole – Endicott College
(Sophomore, Forward – Allen, Texas)

Allen's first career short-handed goal at the 10:14 mark of the first period proved to be the game-winner against Southern Maine as the Gulls defeated the Huskies, 2-0, on Friday night in both of their respective season openers.


Stephanie Strymecki – Morrisville State College
(Sophomore, Forward– Kelowna, B.C.)

Strymecki opened her sophomore campaign with a hat trick in a dominating 9-0 victory over Nichols College before adding an assist in a 3-0 win over Plymouth State the following day at the Buffalo State Bengal Invitational Tournament.


Katherine Mason – Johnson & Wales University
(Freshman, Forward– Grafton, Mass.)

Mason scored a pair of goals and added an assist in her first collegiate game. She tallied the first goal of the game just 1:59 into the contest and had a goal and assist in the third period.
